Jose Mourinho confirms three Manchester United players who will start vs Liverpool. Jose Mourinho confirmed after Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Valencia on Wednesday night that Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young would all be starting against Liverpool on Sunday.
The English trio were all substitutes at the Mestalla, as Carlos Soler and a Phi Jones own goal handed the Spanish side victory.
All three came off the bench, with striker Rashford scoring a late consolation for a heavily-rotated side that featured eight changes.
Young replaced Marcos Rojo - who suffered an injury - at the break, before Rashford came on for Fred in the 57th minute and Lingard came on for Romelu Lukaku in the 69th minute.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho was asked whether the trio would return to the starting XI at Anfield.
Mourinho responded with a nod, before declaring: "You have only to find eight more."
One of the big questions ahead of the trip to Merseyside will revolve around where Rashford starts, with Romelu Lukaku again failing to impress in Spain; the Belgian failed to register a shot on target before being taken off with just over 20 minutes to go.
Asked whether any of his starters in Valencia were likely to retain their places, Mourinho said: "Marcos Rojo no because he's injured. The rest are not injured, they belong to the squad.
"We have lots of players that were not here today because they are injured, this is our squad, our players, they have a chance to play Sunday."
That could mean a Premier League recall for Paul Pogba, who played the full 90 minutes in United's final Champions League group game but who was only on the bench against both Fulham and Arsenal.
Mourinho insisted that he had no regrets over his decisions to rotate, with United's defeat meaning that they failed to capitalise on Juventus' shock loss in Switzerland.
"Regrets, why? Smalling is injured, Lindelof is injured, Darmian is injured, Martial is injured, Dalot is injured, the only two players I could bring and didn't was De Gea and Matic," said Mourinho.
"Matic, you are the first ones to make the stats and to say how many minutes he is playing and you are saying week after week that he needs a rest. If he doesn't have a rest in a match we have already qualified then he would play until he explodes, was a normal option to leave him out.
"And David is a question of give a match or no to Romero, Romero is such a good goalkeeper that I played him in the Europa League final a couple of years ago. So these were the two changes I say that could play.
"Apart from that nobody, nobody. And last week, we had three matches, the majority of the players are the players that are playing all the time and I had no other options.
"The players that I play, if this was a match to decide the group would be a very similar team, so that's the reality.
"When you analyse Manchester United and analyse our ambitions and our level sometimes you should learn the situation a little bit better because you make certain kind of comments."
